Produced
by Studio Utopia, the new CD of LELO NAZARIO, "Simples",
brings nine original compositions dedicated to musicians like Clare Fischer,
Denny Zeitlin, Daniel Goyonne, Roger Kellaway and Zeca Assumpção,
performed by the composer (keyboards) and Marlui Miranda (voice), Teco
Cardoso (sax and flute), Peter Erskine (drums), and Alvaro Faria (percussion).
Recognized as a very original composer and pianist, he works in the areas of
avant-garde music and jazz. Lelo has joined the PAU BRASIL group, touring Europe
and United States several times, recording three albums, and having won the
Sharp Prize (Best Instrumental Group) of 1996 with the CD "Babel",
which also obtained an indication to the Grammy in 1998 in the Jazz category.
He has worked with great names of the Brazilian instrumental music, as Hermeto
Pascoal, Toninho Carrasqueira, Roberto Sion, Paulo Bellinati, among many others.
He has also led the legendary Grupo Um, one of the first ensembles to put together
traditional Brazilian style and contemporary music, performing in the 70’s and
80’s.
With Grupo Um, Lelo released three albums: " Marcha sobre a cidade"
(1979), " Reflexões sobre a crise do desejo" (1981) and "
A flor de plástico incinerada" (1983). With Pau Brasil, he recorded
"Lá vem a tribo" (GHA, Brussels), "Metrópolis tropical"
(Divina Comédia, Paris), "Babel" (Pau Brasil label, São
Paulo, and Blue Jackel, New York), as well as "Pau Brasil & Hermeto
Pascoal" (Tom Brasil, São Paulo). With the same group, he wrote
the music (in collaboration with other composers) for the "Opera dos 500"
in 1992, an opera sponsored by the city of São Paulo to celebrate the
500 years of the discovery of America.
NAZARIO has written avant-garde works and music for different formations, including
music for piano, ensembles and orchestras, as well as electroacoustic, film
and dance music. In 1989, he formed the Duo Nazario with the drummer Zé
Eduardo Nazario, and for that formation, he wrote "Limite" and "Aurora",
works sponsored by the Symphony Band of the State of São Paulo, and performed
in Brazil and abroad (8th. WASBE Conference, Austria, 1997).
He also recorded three solo albums: "Lagrima/Sursolide Suite", "
Discurso aos objetos" (electroacoustic music) and "Se...". The
compositions of "Simples", his fourth solo album, were written in
the style of each of those five honoured musicians, mixing electronic and acoustic
sounds, and an unusual rhythmic structure. "Simples" is one of the
best issues of the new Brazilian instrumental music, and can not be missed!
The CD is an independent production.
